Overnite Express, in conjunction with ease e-waste and Working Wardrobes, is looking for individuals to recycle their old cell phones. As of February 9, 2006, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) prohibits all batteries, cell phones and other electronic devices from being discarded into landfills due to their harmful impact on the environment. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, by the end of 2005, the number of cell phones discarded in the United States was estimated to be more than 500 million, and that number is projected to grow by an additional 130 million per year. Currently only about 5% of retired cell phones are being recycled. The main concern about the improper disposal of cell phones and other electronic waste is that the toxic metals from these discarded electronics end up in landfills and over time pollute the groundwater. In addition to helping the environment and complying with the law, the program also supports men and women in our community who are emerging from life crises with the goal to be self sufficient. For every cell phone received, a $0.75 donation will be given to Working Wardrobes, a nonprofit organization that helps at-risk individuals re-enter the workforce through wardrobing and career development. You can help us make a difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and the environment! Instructions Step 1. Place your old cell phone in any envelope or other packaging. Step 2. Click here to create a complimentary shipment form. (Fold in half and adhere to packaging that Step 3. Drop package in any Overnite Express drop box. Click here to find a box close to you.
